Who are we?

Nailega is one of the four mataqali (clan) that make up the yavusa (tribe) Naivakacere currently occupying the koro (village) of Vatukarasa. Vatukarasa is part of the tikina (district) Taivugalei in the yasana (province) of Tailevu.

The Mataqali Nailega is made up of two tokatoka (family units), Nailega and Natabuqoli.

What we believe

Mataqali Nailega - connecting their past and our future

How many of us are there?

Mataqali Nailega descendants number somewhere betwen 90 and 250.

Where are we?

Mataqali Nailega are scattered all over Fiji with most holding employment and residing in urban areas. A few families reside in overseas countries and it is mostly for their sake that this site was set up.

Why the website?

A small fraction of the Mataqali Nailega that resides in Suva, the capital of the Fiji Islands, put this site together in an attempt to keep their relatives informed of Mataqali Nailega happenings. We are slowly reaching out to the rest of our brothers, sisters, cousins, uncles and aunties whereever they may be.

This is now the official Mataqali Nailega website and we are located at http://nailega.net - our final home.

What we wanna do

What's with the leaves?

The leaves in the above photo are from the famous vesi tree. Used extensively as a base material for traditional Fijian artifacts, weapons, houses and canoes the vesi is by the traditional sacred plant of the Mataqali Nailega and Yavusa Naivakacere.
